About Us
Kinfolk and memorable places are a part of Fort Bend County's rich heritage. As a business owner in the area for over 20 years, Hawkins has become closely involved with these people and places.
Time has taken its toll on many of Fort Bend's historic homes and buildings. In order to preserve them, Hawkins has salvaged some of their hardwoods, and transformed them into one-of-a-kind furniture pieces based on his personal artistic vision. For example, the old Fairchild Dance Hall and the Rose-Rich Bowling Alley can be found in a variety of Hawkins' pieces. His preservation efforts now reach beyond the confines of Fort Bend County to include wood from as far away as Mississippi, though the company's roots are in Texas.
Hawkins Furniture Company began in 1994 when Hawkins began to paint chairs using the color palette matching the unique furniture designs of Houston craftsman David Marsh. These chairs are now shipped nationwide.
Since 2001, Hawkins Furniture has occupied a 3,000 sq. ft. showroom with a 2,000 sq. ft. attached woodshop. The showroom exhibits not only Hawkins' one-of-a-kind pieces, but the work of David Marsh and the chairs that complement both. The attached woodshop gives visitors the opportunity to see the process used by Hawkins and his fellow craftsmen in the creation of their unique pieces.
